About Us
Leeds University Union Backstage Society (LUUBSS) are a group of students who are passionate about theatre and live events. We provide voluntary technical services to Leeds University Union performance societies.
We normally work on 10-15 shows a year which is also a great opportunity to try out different positions. These shows include musicals, dance shows and the Riley awards at the end of the year. No prior experience is required to join our team - sign up as general crew and we'll teach you all you need to know! Between Stage, Set, Sound, Lighting, Audio/Visuals and Front of House there's a huge range of roles you can try out. Come along and start your backstage journey in Leeds University and find your new passion!
Where do you work?
We mostly operate shows in the Riley Smith Theatre in LUU. It is a 360 seat multi-purpose events space which, depending on the night, might be Rydell High, Bobby's birthday, a breathtaking audio/visual dance experience or just about anything else you can think of. You can get there by entering LUU through the main entrance into the foyer and taking the second left once you enter the building.
How do I join?
In order to join us, you'll have to purchase a membership to our society on LUU Engage. These memberships are open to everyone, but if you are not a Uni of Leeds student, you will have to purchase a participant relationship. Once you have purchased this, join our Facebook group and mailing list- this will ensure that you are kept up to date with everything that's going on, and are able to sign up to crew calls that you're interested in.
